The ILT Velodrome: Built to International Standards
Category Winner: RMB 2007
"We can proudly say that our workmanship and accuracy of set-out, our staff and standards, are among the best in the world. We were able to provide our client with a venue worthy of international events at a price no one thought possible."
The ILT Velodrome represents a benchmark project for Calder Stewart Construction, demonstrating our capacity to take on the big jobs. By integrating our Precast Concrete, Structural Steel and Roofing divisions to greater advantage, we delivered a completed project that was not only on time and within budget but most importantly constructed according to internationally-set standards for cycling velodromes.
The project included a link area to the adjacent Stadium Southland, incorporating a seismic joint which enables the Velodrome and the Stadium to move independently. It also includes four multi-purpose netbail/tennis courts with pedestrian tunnel access, a vehicle access entrance, a cyclist tunnel, administrative offices, a public retail area and a number of meeting rooms housing more than 50 people.
The Invercargill-based Velodrome has become a national landmark and enjoys a growing international reputation. It also earned us the Registered Master Builders Tourism and Leisure Commercial Project Award for 2007.
"The accuracy and precision with which the structure was built is testament to the team's skill."
