Daily Freight Terminal

Location:
Christchurch
Area:
7400m2

Daily Freight is a subsidiary of Mainfreight. They had an architect designed freight terminal building in Wigram (Christchurch) for which we were awarded the tender.

Requirements of the project included the proper treatment of existing infrastructure including relocating existing power lines prior to construction, along with new rail siding being laid that would interface with existing lines. The terminal would be built around the new siding in such a way to include loading docks. Another requirement of the project would be accommodation of two drive-through lanes for trucks.

The entire freight handling and processing area measured in at 6700m2 and an additional 700m2 was devoted to a two-level office space area, the architectural detailing of which included extensive use of cedar timber for stairs, wall linings and exterior cladding.

This project was first of its kind for our client, Daily Freight, and the success of it has led to other work commissioned to Calder Stewart and performed for parent company Mainfreight in other locations around the country.
