Fonterra Lichfield Milk Powder Expansion

Fonterra‘s Lichfield milk powder processing and distribution centre is the world’s largest milk processing plant of its kind and is located in the middle of the Waikato. We were contracted to provide several aspects of this massive expansion project, such as the:

  • pipe bridge foundations
  • service building
  • silo foundations
  • secondary fire pump house
  • tanker wash
  • workshop
  • administration extension
  • distribution centre smoko and welfare facility building
  • cheese redline extension

The service building supplies all of the vital services to keep the new milk powder operations running. This building required room to put compressed air, chilled water HV electrical supply, demineralised water and cleaning chemicals. It is comprised of PC panels and colour-steel roof with aluminium joinery and motorised roller doors. Internal and external gantries assist with the lifting of the half tonne electrical motors and parts. Outside are two transformer bays, each able to house two transformers and their supporting RMU’s on each end.

The workshop facilitates the ongoing repairs and maintenance and consists of office space for the managers and staff, production store room for the storage of all the parts and machinery required to service the milk processing plant. It also features an electrical workshop room and a machinery workshop area with a mechanical and an automation and testing room for additional support. This building is comprised of PC panels around the oil storage and machine room. Structural support was also included for the first floor around the electrical test room, tool store room and the stores office.

With the use of Comflor trays that form the first floor slab, timber frames also assist with load bearing walls to contribute to the structural integrity of the office area. The envelope is comprised of colour-steel roof, wall cladding with aluminium joinery and motorised roller doors.
