Fonterra Whareroa Expansion.

One of our larger dry store projects, this 24,000m² expansion required shifting 250,000m² of dirt off a hillside to create a platform for Fonterra’s daily operations.

Dairy giant Fonterra was seeking to expand its Whareroa Plant operations in the heart of Taranaki and so needed an extensive upgrade for its dry storage capacity. Almost straight after completing a similar project for Fonterra at Darfield in the South Island, we proposed a build for a 24,000m2 dry store that met with approval.

Construction of the new milk powder dry store had to take place around Fonterra’s ongoing operations at Whareroa, the largest facility of its kind in the world, with a staff of a thousand. Additionally, the project required the moving of 250,000m2 of an existing hillside to create an ideal building platform, integrating seamlessly into Fonterra’s daily operations.

The project represented a benchmark for us and repeat client Fonterra insofar as it was the most extensive product undertaken by our North Island team at that time. From start to finish, the project took nine months to complete and is a testament to our team’s capacity to meet tight construction deadlines.
