The Press Print Site

Location:
Christchurch
Area:
2500m2

The Press, a Christchurch newspaper owned and operated by Fairfax Ltd, was seeking to build a new facility to house its world-class rotary web offset printing press, taking advantage of locating outside the central business district. Our development team offered a tract of land on Logistics Drive in Christchurch, which was suitable for the client.

The construction project itself called for a massive open space to house the large press unit along with proper access and egress areas to enhance productivity and efficient throughput of raw materials and finished printed matter. We called on our own precast capabilities to supply the concrete panels used in the project’s unique construction.

Technical aspects of this project that are worth noting include oversized precast concrete panels, which required casting of some panels on-site, due to the challenges of conventional transport.

This facility, both spacious and highly practical, has served The Press well. It was even used to support and house the company’s administrative branch when its downtown offices required evacuation due to the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch.
