You might not have heard the name Winstone Wallboards, but you will have heard of their product. Winstone Wallboards are New Zealand's only manufacturer of GIB® brand plasterboard.
Part of the Building Products Division of Fletcher Building, a client we’ve enjoyed a long working relationship with, Winstone Wallboards are manufacturing enough interior wall linings to cover a large chunk of market demand. And with the amount they’re currently producing, it’s easy to imagine the vast quantities of stock they need to store in between manufacture and distribution. So, with that in mind, a storage facility was designed and built quickly to alleviate the mounting pressure. Located in Hornby, the client selected a prime, 8000m2 industrial warehouse site from our land portfolio.
While this is a simple structure, a short delivery timeframe made it a demanding project. Winstone Wallboards needed the new storage facility very quickly so initial designs were developed within a month. And in order to get on site and begin construction as quickly as possible, the consent stage was split in two; rapidly getting the superstructure over the line first, with consent for the fit out and services coming later.
As part of the solution, we also provided them with space of our own as a temporary stopgap while the project got underway.
Utilising our own manufacturing supply chain to keep the project on track, it was ultimately delivered earlier than specified in the contract with minimum variations. Ground was broken in September 2018 with the first half of the building handed over before the Christmas break.
