Latest North Island Project Handed Over to Fonterra

Calder Stewart's most recent construction project for client Fonterra, a new 21,000m² dry store along with the reconfiguration of existing facilities into a new services building, is now complete. The Pahiatua project comes on the heels of another North Island project completed earlier in the year for Fonterra: a 24,000m² drystore to complement their large scale operations at Wharaoa in the heart of Taranaki. Together, these projects represent our two largest completed on the North Island, with prospects of more to come from our valued client Fonterra.

Calder Stewart’s construction mandate once again was to build around Fonterra’s daily operations. However, this time around the project imposed the additional condition of having a unique site plan. This called for a design that is nearly trapezoidal at one end in order to make optimal use of the space for the building’s footprint. As North Island Operations Manager KELVIN O’CONNELL put it, “Our structural steel was on target: from planning, to fabrication, to actual onsite delivery and construction.”

The construction team were spot on in bringing everything together, including the construction of a 184 metre long in situ concrete retaining wall, as part of the building’s northern face. “At the end of the day - all elements came together and fit like a glove,” Kelvin concludes.
