Gold Award of Excellence at the ACENZ Innovate Awards
The Calder Stewart team are proud of our recent achievement at the 2017 ACENZ Innovate Awards, winning a Gold Award of Excellence for Skellerup Project Viking.
The collaborative project team was made up of Skellerup Industries, Beca, Inovo and Calder Stewart.
Calder Stewart provided Design & Build services for the building and civil works, starting construction in late 2014.
To maintain a tight schedule, Calder Stewart commenced the “basebuild” design and build package while the remaining fitout requirements of the process were in design. Calder Stewart’s customised design build approach provided an innovative outcome not only for the traditional structural elements but also the bespoke rubber-processing tower.
As the fit out design developed, and it became practical to do so, various elements of the industrial fit out were also added into the Calder Stewart scope (e.g. process water supply for equipment cooling). A collaborative approach was adopted to facilitate a high degree of communication around project objectives, schedule, design issues such as equipment loadings/sizes, install of large/heavy equipment that needed early access through walls prior to building completion, upcoming events and who was doing what on a daily basis.
“The project wasn’t just the building shell, it was the total solution. To further develop this insight we ensured the entire Site Project Team visited the existing factory and understood the dramatic changes our client was embarking on; new processes, one roof, culture, technology, the whole array, thus creating ownership and shared goals”. Ben Grant, Calder Stewart Project Manager.
