New Mobile Crane Arrives in Christchurch

Calder Stewart is breaking new ground with its latest equipment purchase, a Liebherr LTM 1100 mobile 100 tonne crane, the first of its type and size in the country. As Plant Manager DAVE SHANKS explains it, the German-built machine has been purchased “for its quality, capacity range and compact size”.

This machine will be used primarily to service the growth of work in Christchurch – particularly around Hornby. Extremely cost effective on site, it’s the proximity to many projects that makes the numbers work. The 60 metre boom crane takes only 30 minutes to set up and as the heaviest unit in its class, it has exceptional lift even without counterweights. It is equipped with a full fly, panel rotating jib and two extra half-stacks of counterweights for efficient day-to-day moving.

And Lead Crane Operator JASON SMITH, who will be operating the unit - is quite simply “over the moon.”
