Sponsorship: Southern Sinfonia
Festival of Colour 2015 Concert Planned
Milton - Calder Stewart is delighted to announce its sponsorship of an upcoming concert of the Southern Sinfonia, one of New Zealand’s five main symphony orchestras, at the prestigious Festival of Colour in Wanaka.
The Southern Sinfonia is to present an extraordinary multi-artform concert project, focusing on one of New Zealand’s masters of colour, the painter Frances Hodgkins. The concert will be conducted by UK conductor Jessica Cottis, playing New Zealand composer Anthony Ritchie’s original orchestral commission, interwoven with a dramatic monologue written by NZ author Catherine Chidgey.
The orchestra’s General Manager PHILIPPA HARRIS says Calder Stewart is a crucial partner and sponsor in this project. “We’re thrilled to have Calder Stewart as the main sponsor for this project. Simply put, without them, the tour of this significant project would not be possible and so everyone involved in this performance is deeply grateful to them for their support.”
“Ever since the project was first performed in Dunedin in 2009 we’ve been looking for a way to present it at the Festival of Colour. A critic at the time said: ‘This work must be repeated soon.’ Six years later, it’s finally going to happen, thanks to Calder Stewart,” says Philippa.
The performance is scheduled for Sunday 26 April at 1pm at the Lake Wanaka Centre.
